Venetian Blinds in Cape Town: Aluminium, Wood & Faux-Wood Slats

Venetian blinds are horizontal slats on cords that tilt to control light and privacy, and lift to stack clear of the window. The tilt is what makes them versatile — angle the slats for soft light, or close them fully to block sun and view. Capetown Blinds supplies aluminium, real basswood and moisture-resistant faux-wood slats across the greater Cape Town area, each cut precisely to your windows.

Venetian Blinds Options We Supply

Aluminium Venetian Blinds

Slim 25mm aluminium slats that are light, durable and easy to clean — a practical, affordable choice for kitchens, offices and bathrooms. The powder-coated finish resists the coastal humidity that corrodes lesser metals.

Wooden (Basswood) Venetian Blinds

Warm, premium 50mm basswood slats that bring natural texture to lounges, studies and bedrooms. Basswood is light, stable and takes stains and paints beautifully for a furniture-grade finish.

Faux-Wood Venetian Blinds

The look of timber in a PVC/composite slat that will not warp, crack or fade in steam and damp — the right call for bathrooms, kitchens and anywhere near the coast where real wood struggles.

Venetian Blinds — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between wood and faux-wood Venetian blinds?

Real basswood is lighter, warmer in tone and a touch more premium, but it can warp in constant steam or damp. Faux-wood is a PVC/composite that mimics timber and is fully moisture-resistant, so it is the better choice for bathrooms, kitchens and coastal homes. Both come in a wide colour range.

Are aluminium Venetian blinds good for coastal Cape Town homes?

Yes, provided the slats and hardware are powder-coated, which ours are. Powder-coating resists the salt-laden air on the Atlantic Seaboard and West Coast that would corrode bare metal. For very exposed sea-front windows we still usually recommend faux-wood or fabric blinds.

How much do Venetian blinds cost in Cape Town?

Aluminium Venetians start around R550 per m², faux-wood around R900–R1,500 per m², and real basswood from about R1,200 per m². A typical kitchen window in aluminium is often in the R500–R900 range fitted. We confirm exact pricing after measuring.

Can you tilt Venetian blinds for privacy without losing all the light?

Yes — that is their main advantage. Angling the slats to roughly 45 degrees lets soft daylight in while blocking the line of sight from outside, then closing them fully gives complete privacy and shade.

How do I clean Venetian blinds?

Aluminium and faux-wood slats wipe clean with a damp cloth; real wood should be dusted dry or wiped with a barely-damp cloth to protect the finish. We can also supply slat cleaning tools on request.

Do wooden Venetian blinds fade in the sun?

Quality basswood blinds are finished with UV-resistant coatings, but constant direct sun will eventually lighten any timber. For very sunny west-facing windows we suggest faux-wood or pairing the blind with a sunscreen roller to take the worst of the UV.
