What is the difference between wood and faux-wood Venetian blinds?
Real basswood is lighter, warmer in tone and a touch more premium, but it can warp in constant steam or damp. Faux-wood is a PVC/composite that mimics timber and is fully moisture-resistant, so it is the better choice for bathrooms, kitchens and coastal homes. Both come in a wide colour range.
Are aluminium Venetian blinds good for coastal Cape Town homes?
Yes, provided the slats and hardware are powder-coated, which ours are. Powder-coating resists the salt-laden air on the Atlantic Seaboard and West Coast that would corrode bare metal. For very exposed sea-front windows we still usually recommend faux-wood or fabric blinds.

Yes — that is their main advantage. Angling the slats to roughly 45 degrees lets soft daylight in while blocking the line of sight from outside, then closing them fully gives complete privacy and shade.
How do I clean Venetian blinds?
Aluminium and faux-wood slats wipe clean with a damp cloth; real wood should be dusted dry or wiped with a barely-damp cloth to protect the finish. We can also supply slat cleaning tools on request.
Do wooden Venetian blinds fade in the sun?
Quality basswood blinds are finished with UV-resistant coatings, but constant direct sun will eventually lighten any timber. For very sunny west-facing windows we suggest faux-wood or pairing the blind with a sunscreen roller to take the worst of the UV.
